How to beat sugar addiction? Get yourself some ants

This might sound a bit yucky…..but it’s true.

I had some ants in my kitchen today. they were obviously searching for food. At the time I had about 2 pounds of raw beef and one half pound of raw beef fat…..sitting on the kitchen counter. I also had some condiments on the same counter….mostly from my carb eating days.

So……what did the ants go for?

Raw beef? Nope…..not even one of the lil’ buggers cared for that.

Raw beef fat? Nope…..same story, the ants all voted to pass on it.

Instead, they went straight for……the balsamic vinegar. They made a bee line….er, an ant line….and just hung out there on the bottle, which, although the label doesn’t say so…..clearly had some added sugar in it. Yuck!

Guess what, ants???? You can have the whole bottle.

Today….all beef and chicken…….and for the first time….I ate the beef…..RAW.  :-)

Is there a meat-a-bolic advantage?

Lots of passion and intellect on both sides of the argument as to whether there is a metabolic advantage…such that you can eat a daily caloric intake in excess of maintenance and still lose weight.

Dunno…..but I sure hope so. For me, that’s because I’m still having a hard time adjusting to the lower total volume of food on a zero carb (all meat) diet. As a result, I’m eating way more than maintenance total calories…..yikes!!!…..but nothing passed my lips today that didn’t come from a cow or a chicken…..and no dairy included in that (none….no cheese, butter, cream….nuttin’).

I hope I get more comfortable with reduced volume of food……’cause otherwise I’m gonna’ need there to be one heckuva’ metabolic advantage.

Sick and tired of no carbs

I see that a lot throughout the blogosphere. I don’t judge folks….and therefore must believe that anyone who chooses to go back to a moderate or high carb diet after trying a zero carb or low carb diet for long enough to totally adapt their body to burning fat and shunning carbs……..is doing what they truly believe is best for their life and health.

For me…..I’m sick and tired, too. Really.

I’m sick and tired of allowing carbs to make me feel sick and tired!!!!!!!

Onward…….zero carbs today. All beef and chicken. Bok….bok….bok…..mooooooooo!!!!  :-)

Hey sugar addiction…..what’s your beef with me?

Huh?

Can’t hear ya’?

Don’t feel like talkin’, temptin’, torturin’ me anymore?

It’s about time!

As for what your beef was (past tense!) with me……I couldn’t care less. As for my own “beef”….oh yes!!…that was the menu today. All beef (well, a lil’ pork leftovers, too)…..no carbs. None.

Carbs are oxygen for sugar cravings and sugar addiction. Fat and protein are the oxygen extinguishers.  :-)

*POOF*

No more oxygen…lol!!  :-)

Sugar cravings. If ya’ can’t defeat ‘em…..then meat ‘em!

All meat….all day. No eggs, no butter…..no “trace carbs”. Just meat (today was beef, pork, chicken, duck)…..and meat fat (pork belly).

I think I consumed too many calories and too much protein….but I swear to the meat gods that I am going to continue stuffing my face with meat and fat….whatever it takes….however much it takes….until the final breath of my former sugar addiction is snuffed out. Once I achieve that….I’ll worry about scaling back the calories.

Don’t beleive me, Mr. Sugar??? G’head……tempt me. Hit me with a sugar craving. Faster than you can even try….I’ll eat another piece of pork belly.

Give it up. The game’s over. You lose, Mr. Sugar. I win.  :-)

If ya’ can’t beat ‘em…….don’t eat ‘em!

That’s what it all comes down to for me. Many of you won’t want / need to go to such an extreme….but for me…..it’s no carbs. (That’s the ideal….but realistically I’m probably eating at least 2grams per day.)

Call it “looking to be sold”….but over the past few days…..coincident with me eliminating carbs from my diet….I’ve been reading a lot about such “meat only”, “carnivore”, “meat and egg”, “no carb”…..diets. Is there science to back the benefits up? Well….sure….and you know what? That’s not what it’s about for me.

What’s it about?

Carbs, sugar cravings, and sugar addiction have ruled and ruined my life for almost two decades. Fuck that. No more.

(Wow…went a lil’ carbo crazy there. Sorry!!! :-)   )

Can I borrow your calculator?

OK….let’s add up the total carb grams I ate today. Now where’s my calculator…..ahhhhh, maybe I can just use the one on my computer…..let’s see…..

…………..ok, I’ve done the math. Today I ate a total of

ZERO CARBS

WOOHOO!!!

(This won’t be a permanent thing in my diet, but I have to finish the job of killing off the sugar cravings and the overall sugar addiction, and over the past few days…..consuming spinach, nuts, pickles, and olives…..even though they are all “low carb” foods….I felt the all too familiar pangs of sugar hunger.)

Pretty ugly

That’s how it was today……pretty in that I didn’t eat many carbs. Ugly in that I still ate too many total calories (mainly from double thick cream and from butter).

There is still this lingering….although slowly fading (thank gawwwwwwwd!)……piece of my body / mind that thinks if I eat enough protein and fat…..and then keep eating it…..maybe somehow the next bite of buttered chicken breast will have some cookies (or other carbs) in it.

Ummmmmm……no…….it won’t. So…..lil’ piece of my body / mind……quit messing with me and let me get back to completing the task of kicking ass on the sugar addiction / cravings.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  ;-)

Popeye…..you are sugar addiction’s poster boy

Day 8….but a bit of a step back I gotta’ say. I ate spinach today….not too bad on the carbs….but then I ate 160 grams of sugar free chocolate (2 candy bars). Dumb.

I think that even the spinach is too much for me on the carbs….it triggers the same “feed me more carbs” sugar cravings (or just “feed me more food of any kind cravings”) that I am working so hard to put behind me.

So….Popeye….I’ll be back wit’ ya’ later…..and I’m not a Popeye hater….but it’s back to zero….zilch….nada….carbs for me tomorrow (except for the trace amounts in eggs).

*sigh*

Seven is heaven for me…..hell for sugar addiction

Day 7…..mostly fat and protein….added a bit of spinach again, and a handful (35 grams) of macadamia nuts after a workout. (Side note: the auto spell checker didn’t recognize “macadamia”!!! That’s insane….everyone knows this is the best tasting nut!!! LOL!!)

Sugar cravings are dissipating day by day……but there is a tougher aspect to switching to low (almost no) carb WOE.

VOLUME!!!

Yup….when I was eating carbs I would eat at least 2kg per day of veggies (sounds like a lot…but total was only about 500 calories)…..so my tummy was always full after eating. That feeling of fullness sorta’ goes away (or changes) in the low carb world….well, at least while I am on less than 20g per day (including fiber….none of that “net carb” nonsense here!!).

Fat is very satiating….but that is different from being very “filling”…..know what I mean?

So….while I am adapting to this day to day…..I am still guilty of overeating in terms of calories as I try (in vein) to reach that same former feeling of full tummy.

Here’s how I’ll deal with it…..dammit.

I will aim for a full heart and full mind……and a less full tummy. Sounds like a good trade off!!

ONWARD!!!!!
